At last! Finally, I am so glad that the concept of preparing your home for sale (also known as “staging”) is catching among fellow real estate agents! This way more and more sellers will be willing to implement our recommendations. I was initiated to “staging” while taking courses in Manhattan with the creator of this concept, and it really was a fantastic experience … incredible!…how the owners gave “carte blanche” to their realtors in rearranging their furniture, art, even their clothing! When I returned home, I confronted the situation that it was not so easy in Puerto Rico. Even today, in spite of having so many TV shows revolving around this theme, most real estate agents, as well as the public in general, do not know what “staging” is all about. Of course, this looks very simple, but the real estate agent who advertises as practicing “staging” should also have a background in design and a gook sense of color and space. In today’s competitive market, any home seller can benefit from a real estate broker that is not only honest, hard working and trustworthy, but also knowledgeable in all aspects of real estate, including the esthetics (presentation) side of it. “the way you live in your home is not the way you sell it”, to quote Barb Schwarz, creator of this concept many years ago. Let me make it clear that this is no panacea; some houses need more than just painting and rearranging furniture in order to sell at the best possible price.
